"About My Dad..........."

My Dad was born on April 30,1930 to Ray & Garnett Kester. He was 1 of 8 children. He was raised in Chilton,Missouri. Chilton was an extremely small community that sat on the banks of the Current River, located in the hills just a few miles from Van Buren.

Walking In The Past.......

All my life I have had the pleasure of listening to the stories told by my Father. Stories about his life and growing up in the Missouri hills.Some of the tales seem unreal,but they still make me wish I could step back in time and join my Dad on a few of his adventures.

Garnet Kester's Obituary as it appeared in the Current Local Newspaper:

Garnett Lizzie Kester,69,of Van Buren,passed away Monday,March 18th, at the Doctor's Hospital in Poplar Bluff,after being ill for about a year.
Mrs.Kester was born on June 25,1899 in Carter County,and spent her entire lifetime in this county.In May of 1919 she was married to Ray Kester,who preceded her in death.
Survivors include two daughters,Barbara Lewis of New York City,Gladys Benson of Durham,Cal.;Six sons,Loyd (Red) Kester of Van Buren,Floyd of Poplar Bluff,Clyde of Cantwell,Mo.,Thomas of Vinita,OK, and Boyd and Paul Kester of St.Louis;one brother,Flynn Dorris of Van Buren;two sisters,Ethal Daniels of Fresno,CA,and Loretta Wilder of Van Buren; 20 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
The funeral is scheduled to be held at 2PM,Wednesday at the Van Buren First Baptist Church with Rev.Clarence Crook officiating. Burial is to be in the Aldrich Valley Cemetery,with Pewitt-Sloan Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Dad entered the U.S. Navy in September 1948.He trained at Camp Green Bay in Great Lake,Illinois. While serving during the Korean War,he was stationed on a destroyer minesweeper called the USS Hambelton. Dad (rear) & Bill McMann
